Can Dogs Eat Avocados?
Avocados are an excellent source of nutrients for humans, but are they safe for your perfect pup? Due to the chemical persin found in avocados, it’s best to ere on the side of caution on this one!

For humans, avocados are one of the best sources of healthy fats and are packed with nutritional benefits. However, for your dog, avocados may prove to cause more harm than good. While some veterinarians believe that feeding your dog treat sized amounts of the flesh portion of an avocado can be harmless and even beneficial, others strongly disagree.
For starters, avocados contain a fungicidal toxin called persin in all parts of the plant which is known to be deadly to dogs and most other animals. There are many factors that play a role just how much avocado your pup can handle such as their size, breed, and preexisting health conditions. However, symptoms of excess consumption include vomiting, diarrhea, and pancreatitis (due to the high-fat content of an avocado).
Another reason to skip out on sharing your avocado with your pup is the risk associated with the pit in the center of the avocado. Not only can it cause choking, but the pit can also cause bowel obstructions and serious gastrointestinal problems for your furry friend if ingested.
As always, if you have questions concerning what’s safe and beneficial to feed your dog, be sure to consult with your veterinarian.
