Railroad Park is a 19-acre plot of land that sits in the heart of downtown Birmingham. Of the 19 acres, 9 of them are open-lawn great for some puppy exercise. Explore the history of Birmingham through the walking trails. Many of the park benches and walls are made out of bricks that were unearthed during construction. The park is also a venue for multiple city-wide events. Additionally, there are exercise areas and skate parks.
The Vulcan Trail is a mile-long walking path that is part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. This trail is relatively flat but offers a look up at the 1,025-foot Red Mountain. Vulcan Trail is another feature of Birmingham that is full of history. The path itself follows the L&N Birmingham Mineral Railroad and offers overlooks to some of the cities most outstanding historical buildings. Moss Rock Preserve is over 349 acres in size and offers 12 miles of hiking trails. It is here that the Little River Canyon Sandstone Glade can be observed. As the name suggests, Turkey Creek Nature Preserve is great for any dogs that love wadding around in the water. This place is a haven for three endangered species of fish.
